Frequently Asked Questions
How does MEVA work?
How does MEVA work?
MEVA uses a halogen bulb positioned above your candle to gently warm the wax from the top down. The heat melts the wax surface, releasing the candle's fragrance without ever lighting the wick. No flame, no smoke, no soot, just pure scent.
How is this different from burning a candle?
How is this different from burning a candle?
Traditional burning creates a flame at the wick, which melts wax from the center outward, this causes tunneling and wastes 40-50% of your candle. MEVA warms the entire wax surface evenly from above, using every drop of wax and making your candles last 5x longer.
How long does it take to start smelling the candle?
How long does it take to start smelling the candle?
You'll typically notice the fragrance within 5-15 minutes as the wax surface begins to melt. The intensity increases as more wax liquefies. You can adjust the dimmer for faster or slower warming.
Can I still light the wick after using MEVA?
Can I still light the wick after using MEVA?
Yes! Once the wax cools and solidifies, your candle looks exactly as it did before. The wick remains intact, and you can burn it traditionally if you choose. MEVA doesn't damage or alter the candle structure.
How long should I leave MEVA on?
How long should I leave MEVA on?
We recommend 2-4 hour sessions for optimal fragrance without over-warming. MEVA includes an auto-timer (2, 4, or 8 hours) that turns off automatically. You can safely leave it on and walk away—the timer ensures it doesn't run indefinitely.
Can I leave MEVA on overnight or when I leave the house?
Can I leave MEVA on overnight or when I leave the house?
Yes. MEVA is flameless and includes an auto-shutoff timer, making it safe to leave on while sleeping or when you step out. However, we recommend using the 2 or 4-hour timer setting rather than leaving it on continuously for extended periods.
Why does my candle scent get weaker over time?
Why does my candle scent get weaker over time?
As the wax warms, the fragrance oils evaporate first, leaving a spent top layer of wax with little scent. This layer acts as a barrier, preventing heat from reaching the fresh, scented wax below. Once you notice the scent weakening, it's time to remove the top layer.
How do I remove the spent wax layer?
How do I remove the spent wax layer?
Let the wax cool until it just begins to solidify (it will turn opaque/white). Using a spoon, gently scrape off the top 0.5-1cm layer and discard it. This exposes fresh wax underneath, restoring the strong fragrance. You can also pour out the melted wax while still liquid into a disposable container.
Does MEVA work with all candles?
Does MEVA work with all candles?
Yes! MEVA works with any jar candle from any brand, Diptyque, Le Labo, Boy Smells, Bath & Body Works, Yankee, or your local boutique. No special "MEVA candles" required. Soy, paraffin, beeswax, and coconut wax all work beautifully.
Do I need to buy special candles?
Do I need to buy special candles?
No. MEVA works with the candles you already own and love. If it's in a jar and fits under the lamp, it will work.
What about pillar candles or tapers without jars?
What about pillar candles or tapers without jars?
MEVA is designed specifically for jar candles. Pillar candles without containers won't work effectively, as the melted wax would spill onto the base.
Can I use MEVA with 3-wick candles?
Can I use MEVA with 3-wick candles?
Yes, though single-wick candles generally perform better as the heat is more concentrated. Large 3-wick candles (over 10cm diameter) may take longer to melt evenly, and you may need to increase brightness or position the lamp closer.
What kind of bulb does MEVA use?
What kind of bulb does MEVA use?
MEVA uses a 50-watt halogen bulb (GU10 base). We include 2 bulbs with every lamp
Why does my lamp's wood base look different from the photos?
Why does my lamp's wood base look different from the photos?
Each MEVA lamp features a natural beech wood base. Because wood is a living, organic material, every piece has unique grain patterns, color variations, and natural characteristics. Your lamp's wood tone may appear slightly lighter, darker, or have different grain patterns than shown in our imagery. These natural variations are completely normal and make each MEVA lamp truly one-of-a-kind. This is the beauty of working with authentic, sustainable materials, no two are exactly alike.
